About Us
Care that starts with listening.
Lighthouse Compass Behavioral Health Solutions was founded on a simple idea: people do better when they feel genuinely heard, not just treated.
Our mission
We started Lighthouse Compass to close the gap between clinical treatment and real, human support. Too many people put off getting help because it feels clinical, intimidating, or out of reach. We wanted a practice that felt like neither — grounded in evidence-based methods, but delivered with warmth.
We work with adults, couples, and families across anxiety, depression, stress, men’s issues, relationship challenges, and grief. Every plan is built around the person in front of us, not a template.
How we work
Every client starts with a free consultation — no commitment, just a conversation. From there, we build a plan using approaches with real evidence behind them: CBT, ACT, the Gottman Method, and family systems work, adapted to fit you.
We believe progress is measured in small, steady steps, not overnight transformations. Our job is to walk alongside you while you take them.
Clinician & President
R. Joseph Mella, LCSW
Joe is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 32 years in behavioral health and more than 26 years as a licensed therapist. He works with adults and couples, with a particular focus on men’s issues, anxiety, depression, stress, grief, anger, and relationship challenges — and has found a real niche working with men who often feel pressure to handle everything on their own.
His approach is strength-based, practical, and personalized: understanding what’s getting in the way, getting to the core problem quickly, and building tools that actually work in daily life. Joe holds an MSW from Florida State University and a B.S. from the University of Florida, and provides in-person sessions in Jacksonville, FL and telehealth across Florida.
